NB: Interviews for the level 2 Certificate and level 3 Diploma for the Children and
Young People’s Workforce will be held during September and October 2010.
Learners who are already on the waiting list will be contacted after 1st September.

We will then be able to answer your questions and take the first steps towards
ensuring which level of study most closely matches your requirements. You will be
placed on a waiting list.
It is necessary to check that each learner’s job role is suitable for the level of study
- level 3 learners should be working towards supervisory level, with key person
responsibilities and input into curriculum planning; level 2 learners will either be
new to childcare or in junior positions in the setting. Volunteers are not prohibited
from studying at level 3, as long as they undertake the responsibilities listed
above. Details of the interview and screening process are given below, phases 1-4:

Initial chat over the phone explaining course outline and checking suitability.
•
Telephone call to Manager to ascertain job role and level of support.
Written invitation to attend face-to-face interview, where all learners will complete funding application documents. A skills audit will be
completed to establish current responsibilities in the setting, and additional learning needs will be discussed. All learners must bring:

Handwritten personal statement
•
Original copies of certificates (Literacy , Numeracy, ICT, Childcare Qualifications)
•
Letter of recommendation from setting Manager
•
CRB certificate if available
Learners who have not achieved literacy at L2 (or Key Skills L3) and numeracy at L1 will be required to enrol on a course and evidence of
enrolment seen before funding can be applied for. The Local Authority is informed of learner details and suitability at this stage.
A letter is sent to the learner to confirm their place on the course and giving details of the timetable and arrangements for the induction
session.
Learners attend induction, and are registered with City & Guilds
